Trump Federal Indictments – The Search for Truth

Opinion Editorial by Lady Hamilton

On August 1st, 2023, the Former 45th President of the United Stated of America, Donald J. Trump, was indicted on four federal charges:

  • Count 1 – Conspiracy to Defraud the United States
  • Count 2 – Conspiracy to Obstruct an Official Proceeding
  • Count 3 – Obstruction of and Attempt to Obstruct an Official Proceeding
  • Count 4 – Conspiracy Against Rights

This indictment, led by the prosecuting Attorney Jack Smith, is the third indictment filed against Donald J. Trump, that could hold him accountable for the part he played in the January 6th, 2020 Insurrection. Additional legal problems the former President is facing include; indictments concerning the refusal to return and the handling of Special Documents since leaving office, the Georgia criminal investigation concerning interference with the 2020 election, and the New York investigation of the Trump Organization accused of falsifying records to acquire loans and business dealing. All are a part of the search for truth about Donald J. Trump who is seeking to become President of the United States of America again in the 2024 Presidential Election.

USA Headlines

The search for truth is at the core of Donald Trump’s charges. People will look at the facts in the Indictments ( considering that they have been submitted to the court under oath and subject to scrutiny), and then make up their minds about what they accept as the truth. It is this acceptance of truth that will ultimately determine if American Democracy will survive. The facts presented in the Trump Conspiracy and Obstruction Indictment [READ THE FULL DOCUMENT HERE]\ will influence some to decide at minimum, that Donald J. Trump is not fit to be President of the United States again. Others will deny that the charges are relevant, and that the indictments are politically motivated just to keep Trump from winning reelection.

Truth has become subjective with information adopted as true based upon it supporting ones’ desired narrative or agenda. If the facts presented don’t support the receivers beliefs or intentions today, rather than accepting the conflicting beliefs as true and admitting that the person is mistaken, there are those who will deny the truth, alter the interpretation of the truth, or deflect the truth by casting dispersions on others. In the case of Donald Trump, no matter what he does or says that has been proven to be destructive, divisive, and outright illegal, some of his supporters will not accept the fact that his character is not someone we need to be the United States of America Commander In Chief. They make excuses for his behavior and hold him to an entirely different standard than they would anyone else who demonstrated the same behavior. Donald Trump has disregarded the truth unlike any US President before him, accuses other people of doing the nefarious things that he is doing himself, and is deceiving his followers for his political and financial gain.

America is at a critical crossroads and Democracy has been challenged in ways that has never been done before by an American President. The questioning of the legitimacy of our elections has fractured the trust that is essential to the democratic process. The peaceful transfer of power when political parties change has been foundational to democracy and not challenged until Donald J. Trump, who refused to accept defeat and relinquish his seat. However, in fairness to Donald Trump, for several past administrations, many American political leaders have also not accepted their defeat and support the winning party until the next election as they should. Leaders have accepted the winners position, but instead of then working together for the benefit of the country, they work against the winner, undermine their programs, and spend precious time being destructive rather than doing what can be done for the good of all. Donald J. Trump was the first American President to take the underlaying agenda to not support the winning party all the way to outright refusing to accept the election outcome and his defeat.

History books will document how America’s Democracy was fractured during this critical time in American History. Time will tell what Americans did about it and if the country as a whole decided to come together and heal, or if truth was rejected to the demise of a great nation and the successful execution of “the great experiment” that lasted for over 200 years until Donald J. Trump. The Smith Indictment is provided here for your own edification.
